Understanding Brazilian Humor: Portuguese with Porta dos Fundos (Sunday) – December 21th, 3 PM EST

Understanding humor is one of the hardest and most important steps toward real fluency in any language. In Brazilian Portuguese, humor is deeply connected to culture, irony, sarcasm, and social criticism and that’s exactly what we explore in this class.

In this standalone class, we work with short comedy sketches by Porta dos Fundos, one of Brazil’s most famous comedy groups. Their videos reflect Brazilian society, everyday situations, and cultural tensions using bold, ironic, and often provocative humor.

During the class, we will watch the videos together (each one is around three minutes long, making them perfect to rewatch), analyze the dialogues, cultural references, and jokes, and break down vocabulary you normally don’t find in textbooks.

You will
• Practice real listening with authentic Brazilian content
• Learn slang, informal language, and expressions used in daily life
• Be exposed to swearing and adult language (as it naturally appears in real conversations and comedy)
• Receive full transcripts of all analyzed videos
• Practice speaking in breakout rooms with Brazilians in a relaxed, guided environment

This class is designed to be light, fun, and engaging, with no preparation required. Advanced students will deepen their cultural understanding and refine nuance, while beginner and intermediate students will still be able to follow, learn, and enjoy the experience.
