When students ask us how long it takes to speak Portuguese fluently, our answer is simple: achieving conversational fluency is not the hardest part. The real challenge—and the most rewarding one—is becoming fluent in the culture. That’s where our Brazilian Movie Club comes in.

This program goes far beyond language mechanics. It’s about learning how Brazilians really speak, understanding the richness of our diverse regions, accents, and stories, and connecting deeply with the culture. Because when you love the culture, you’ll stay consistent in your studies. And consistency is what truly leads to fluency.

How it works

• Frequency: Bi-weekly (every two weeks)

• Duration: 90 minutes live on Zoom (sometimes up to 120 minutes). All sessions are recorded.

• Format:

  1. Warm-up conversation

  2. Breakout rooms with Brazilians to discuss the plot

  3. Review idiomatic expressions and new vocabulary

  4. Cultural debate with historical, social, and political context

What’s included

• Watch each film twice (recommended):

  • First time with English subtitles

  • Second time with Portuguese subtitles or no subtitles for maximum exposure

• Films provided with both English and Portuguese subtitles

• Extra learning materials: vocabulary video, podcast, quiz

• WhatsApp group for ongoing debates and cultural discussions

• Maximum of 6 students per group

• Open to all levels, with focus on beginners and intermediates

Schedule (EST Time)

• Sundays: 8:00 AM or 3:00 PM

• Thursdays: 1:00 PM or 5:30 PM
